This is my detailed comparison of the Lalo vs Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair. The Lalo and the Stokke Tripp Trapp are two of the best high chairs that grow with your child.

I bought and tested them and compiled some data to bring you this in-depth review and help you decide which high chair is better for your child.

I also wrote separate reviews of the Tripp Trapp and the Lalo high chair, so check them out after you read this post.

When I was looking for a high chair for my daughter, I needed them to meet the following criteria:

  1. Promotes independence

  2. Has an adjustable footrest

  3. Brings your baby as close to the table as possible

  4. Grows with your child

  5. Easy to clean

  6. Durability and safety

So after using both high chairs for several days, I came to the following conclusion:

As you can see from the table above, the clear winner is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair. Let’s take a look at the criteria in more detail.

Lalo vs Stokke Tripp Trapp: Which one is better?

Let’s break down each of my criteria so you understand why the Stokke Tripp Trapp is better than the Lalo high chair.

1. Promotes independence

lalo vs stokke tripp trapp - comparing independence

We follow the Montessori method at home and have set up the right environment to nurture our daughter’s independence.

Our high chair is not just another baby product, but rather a great learning tool to help her become more self-reliant.

My daughter was able to get on and off the Tripp Trapp high chair independently.

We can adjust the footrest and seat of this high chair at various heights and this makes it easy for her to sit at the table whenever she needs a snack.

The Lalo high chair on the other hand is too high. The footrest is adjustable but even at the lowest level, she had a hard time getting on by herself.

She could not reach the footrest with her foot and eventually got frustrated and walked away.

THE WINNER: TRIPP TRAPP HIGH CHAIR!

2. Adjustable footrest and seat

lalo vs stokke tripp trapp - adjustable footrests

Both high chairs are designed to provide a comfortable and ergonomic position. But I am very impressed by the adjustability of the footrest and seat of the Tripp Trapp.

This high chair has various slots for the footrest and seat so you can adjust them at different heights to accommodate your child’s growth.

You can leave the seat at one level and only adjust the footrest and vice versa, or adjust both. You are not limited to just a few height adjustments.

You can also adjust the footrest of the Lalo high chair but only at two levels, so the height adjustment is very limited.

The height difference is only about 8 inches or so, which is not a lot.

This is bad news if you have a big baby because they’ll outgrow the Lalo high chair quickly and you’ll need to invest in additional accessories.

THE WINNER: TRIPP TRAPP HIGH CHAIR!

3. Brings baby close to table

A big part of our day is when we all sit together at the table and enjoy meals as a family. The design of both high chairs allows you to bring your baby as close to the table as possible.

Unlike traditional high chairs, the Lalo and Tripp Trapp don’t have armrests that affect the proximity to the table and this improves your baby’s eating experience.

I didn’t think this was important until we started baby-led weaning because it helped our daughter experiment with food and self-feed and we were right next to her to assist when needed.

Now that our daughter is a toddler, we can have conversations while we eat and truly enjoy some quality time.

THE WINNER: IT’S A TIE!

However, the Tripp Trapp worked better for us because we are using her weaning table and we can adjust the high chair so she can sit comfortably.

4. Grows with child

lalo vs stokke tripp trapp - it can hold the weight of an adult

The Tripp Trapp high chair is the best option because it will last through adulthood.

You can begin using this high chair with your newborn with the newborn set, and then use the baby set when your little one can sit unassisted, usually at about 6 months of age.

But what I found impressive is that even we, the adults, can sit on the Tripp Trapp. It can hold up to 242 pounds, which means that it will last beyond childhood.

The Lalo high chair on the other hand has limitations. The high chair itself is designed for babies 6 months old and up to 3 years or 30 pounds.

Once your baby outgrows the high chair, you can get a conversion kit to use it as a booster seat, but that means that you need to spend money to continue to use part of the high chair.

You can also buy the play legs to transform the high chair into a toddler or kids chair. But again, this requires an extra investment.

Now, we already have a few toddler chairs that came with our weaning table so we didn’t see the need to add another kids’ chair to our collection.

THE WINNER: TRIPP TRAPP HIGH CHAIR!

5. Easy to clean

I hate it when I have a hard time cleaning food that gets trapped in small crevices. Not only is it frustrating but it promotes the growth of mold, mildew, or bacteria.

Both the Tripp Trapp and Lalo high chairs are very easy to clean. We use baby-safe disinfectant to clean the high chair.

If you are using the tray on either chair, you can take it off and wash it in the sink.

Both high chairs also come with removable and washable seat covers. So don’t worry if your baby spills milk or other liquids and gets in the fabric.

Just remove them and throw them in your washer and you are good to go.

THE WINNER: IT’S A TIE!

6. Durability and safety

Both chairs are made of high-quality material.

The Tripp Trapp is made of European beech and oak woods, which I learned are some of the best types of wood in central Europe.

Both types of wood are known for their strength, durability, and flexibility which is the reason they are used to make these high chairs.

The Lalo high chair is made using FSC-certified beech wood and uses non-toxic plastic.

Both high chairs are designed to meet or exceed ASTM safety standards and this brings me peace of mind knowing that my daughter will be safe.

7. Price

Now, I know that price is going to be a deciding factor.

The Lalo high chair costs $259 on Amazon, which is cheaper than on the company’s website. But in addition, you will need the booster conversion seat and play legs which cost $65 and $40, respectively.

So the total cost for the Lalo high chair is $364.

The cost for the Tripp Trapp high chair is $319 and includes the baby set, or you can purchase a bundle that includes the tray and cushion which will cost $419.

Now, comparing apples to apples, I think the Tripp Trapp bundle is worth it because you do get additional benefits not found in the Lalo high chair.
