Lalo high chair review

When I was searching for a good-quality high chair for my daughter, the Lalo high chair, called “The Chair,” always came as one of the top options.

So I bought it, tested it, used it with my daughter, and analyzed every detail to bring you this honest Lalo high chair review.

The Chair by Lalo is a 3-in-1 high chair that can be converted into a toddler play chair and a booster seat and is designed to support your baby even before they can reach the footrest.

Its sleek and modern design will look great in your kitchen or dining room and comes with various color options to match the look of your home.

Now, there are a few things I look for in a high chair:

  1. It should help my child gain independence.
  2. It needs to have an adjustable footrest
  3. It needs to bring my child close to the dining table.
  4. For the higher price, it needs to last a long time.
  5. It needs to be easy to clean.

With that said, it is a great chair but there are a few things you must know because it may or may not work for you.

Let’s cover the pros and cons in detail.

This is why I like the Lalo high chair

There are so many great things about the Lalo high chair that I know you will find helpful.

1. Adjustable footrest

Lalo high chair review-adjustable footrest

I like the adjustability of the footrest to support your baby’s growth. Believe it or not, this is going to make a huge difference when you feed your baby.

The footrest provides support and stability for your child’s feet and legs and this helps them sit more comfortably and for longer periods.

Your baby is going to maintain good posture while they sit and this improves their overall eating experience.

To adjust the footrest, you simply remove the screws and the footrest and flip it over.

2. Converts to a booster seat and play chair

I don’t have the booster seat or the legs for the play chair but I think this is a great added benefit.

The Lalo high chair sort of grows with your child. Once your baby outgrows the high chair, you can purchase the booster seat conversion kit.

You simply remove the legs of the high chair and snap the booster seat.

I also like how you can purchase the play chair legs to convert the high chair into a child’s chair. This is going to add a few more years and increase its longevity, rather than giving it away when your child grows out of it.

The tray and belly bar are also very easy to remove once your baby outgrows it and has good balance to sit unassisted.

You can also remove the straps but I thought they were a little tricky to remove.

3. Rubber feet prevent slipping

The rubber feet are a great feature that prevents the high chair from slipping and also protects your floor.

They provide great grip and it is quite hard to push around, which I thought was great because it can prevent accidents if you have an active child who likes to push things around.

4. Easy to clean

This is one of my requirements because I want it to be easy to clean and not dig into hard-to-reach crevices.

Let’s be honest, your baby is going to make big messes especially if you are doing baby-led weaning.

With the Lalo high chair, we simply get a cleaning rag and baby-safe disinfectant and wipe all the food off.

I don’t have to worry about mold, mildew or bacteria that can get my little one sick.

The cushion is washable so if your baby gets it dirty, simply throw it in your washer and you are good to go.

5. Easy to assemble

Lalo high chair review - assembly

I was extremely impressed by how easy it was to assemble this high chair. It took me about 5 minutes from the moment I laid down all the parts on the floor to the final assembly.

The legs come with pins that click in place on the base of the high chair. The footrest comes with four screws and is very easy to attach to the legs.

Everything else comes pretty much assembled and ready to go.

6. Good stability

I also liked the stability of this high chair mainly because the legs are pretty wide. I think it would be hard for your baby to shift their center of gravity and tip over.

Things to consider before you buy the Lalo high chair

While the Lalo high chair is a great product, there were some minor inconveniences that I felt are worth sharing.

1. Does not promote independence

Lalo high chair review - to hard to get on and off independently

We are raising our daughter using the Montessori approach at home, and one of the purposes of Montessori is to help our child become independent.

Our daughter cannot get on and off the Lalo high chair independently and this is one of the reasons why we did not keep it. The footrest is too high even at the lowest position.

If you want to promote independence, the Tripp Trapp high chair is a better choice,

We also tested and reviewed the Tripp Trapp high chair which we think is the best Montessori high chair.

2. Limited height options for the footrest

Yes, the footrest is adjustable but only by about 8 inches. With that said, the high chair doesn’t really grow with your baby.

It would be nice if you can adjust it at different heights and not be limited to two height options.

3. Only good for kids up to 3 years old

When it comes to longevity, this isn’t the best choice. For the price, I would expect it to last longer than 3 years.

Yes, you can convert it to a play chair but that means that you will be left with the legs just lying around. To me, that is wasted money.

4. Only supports up to 30 pounds

I think the weight limit is very low. The high chair itself is only good for up to 30 pounds and then you’ll have to convert it to the play chair or use the booster seat which both come at an extra cost.

The cost of the booster seat is $65 and $40 for the play chair legs. I don’t think they are too expensive but you should still work within your budget.

5. Too low for high dining tables

Lalo high chair review - too low for high dining tables

This was a deal breaker for us. We have a high dining table and this high chair was just too low. Our daughter could not reach her food. This is not a design flaw, it just didn’t work for us.

We tried using it with our daughter’s adjustable weaning table the same way we used the Tripp Trapp, but it didn’t work out.

If you have a regular-sized dining table, you shouldn’t run into this issue.

6. The legs stick out a bit

While the wide legs provide great stability, I think they stick out quite a bit. I tripped on the legs a few times so you have to watch your step.

Also, keep an eye on your baby if you have an active little one. We play and run a lot in our home so we have to be careful where we place the high chair.

And if you have a small space or need a compact design, the Lalo high chair may not be the best option.

Lalo high chair purchase options and colors

The Chair by Lalo only comes in one option but you can choose from 5 different colors: Coconut, Sage, Licorice, Grapefruit, and Blueberry.

I think the Coconut and Sage are better and will look great in any home style.

Choose your accessories

If you need to add a few extra features, you can purchase the following accessories separately.

Accessory

Cost

Infant support

$45

Booster conversion kit

$65

Play legs

$40

Extra cushion

$45

Extra straps

$35

Splat mat

$89

The Play Box (5-6 months)

$90

These are nice to have but we didn’t see them as necessary. If I had kept this high chair, the only thing I would’ve bought would’ve been the legs for the play chair and booster conversion kit.

Why trust my review

I bought and tested this high chair. As a parent, I understand the struggle of finding quality products that exceed our expectations.

I wanted to see for myself if Lalo’s product description was accurate so I could share my findings with other parents.

This high chair is not just a piece of baby equipment but a product that will become part of your child’s developmental journey.

So, is the Lalo high chair worth it?

After testing this high chair, I believe there are better options like the Tripp Trapp high chair. The Lalo high chair costs $259 on Amazon, which is pretty pricey for what you get.

It is aesthetically looking but unfortunately it didn’t check all of the boxes for me.

However, don’t let my review discourage you from buying this high chair. If some of the cons don’t align with you, then it can be a great choice for your little one.

Lalo high chair FAQ

Yes. After testing it, I have to put it towards the top of my list of best high chairs. The Lalo high chair is made of high-quality and sustainably sourced FSC Certified beech wood.

You can use the Lalo high chair when your baby can sit up independently, usually around 4 to 6 months of age, and up to 3 years old or up to 30 pounds.

Yes, according to their website, it is made from sustainably sourced beechwood with a child-safe and water-based finish and non-toxic plastic.

The vegan leather cushion is free of toxins, PVC, phthalates, and lead and is CPSIA-compliant.

What to do next?

This was my detailed and honest Lalo high chair review. Again, unfortunately, it did not work for us, but I think it is still a great-quality high chair that looks great in any home.

If you want to purchase it and test it yourself, you can get it on Amazon, it is a little cheaper than on Lalo’s website.
