Our daughter was born with a tongue tie and it was very difficult and painful to breastfeed. We also had difficulty finding a baby bottle that mimicked the real breast so our daughter could feed properly.

The best bottle for a tongue tied baby is the Comotomo Baby Bottle. This bottle is life-changing because it feels soft like the real breast and the design of the nipple made it easy for our daughter to latch.

My husband actually compared it to my breast and said that the similarities are very close.

There are many companies like Munchkin, Medela, Dr. Browns, Avent, and other well-known and reputable brands that advertise their bottles as “feels like the real breast.”

But trust us, we know how hard and stressful it was to feed a baby with a tongue tie. So to help you make this process less stressful, here are the best bottles for tongue tied babies.

Our Top 3

  1. Comotomo Baby Bottle. Best bottle for babies with a tongue tie. Designed to latch. Safe silicone offers a breast-like feel. Comes in different flow rates.

  2. Nanobébé Flexy Silicone Baby Bottle. Soft and squeezable silicone body. Made of BPA-free, non-toxic silicone. Anti-colic nipple.

  3. Nanobébé Breastmilk Baby Bottle. Only bottle designed for breastmilk. Provides a smooth transition between breast and bottle. Its design reduces bacteria growth.

Best bottles for tongue tied babies

We tried various bottles and there are only two brands we trust: Comotomo and Nanobébé. Here are the only 3 bottles we recommend for babies with a tongue tie.

1. Comotomo Baby Bottle

This is the best bottle for tongue tied babies and feels similar to the real breast.

As we started to wean off breastfeeding, we tried different bottles but none worked.

Then we found Comotomo and my life changed. This bottle does have a breast-like feel and I think this is why our daughter transitioned to this bottle easily.

My husband did compare the bottle to my breast. Yes, he did feel with his mouth and did a full comparison between the two!

The biggest benefit is that the Comotomo bottle is made with soft and squeezable silicone that feels almost like the real breast.

The other benefit is the nipple. We like the design of the nipple because it is the right size and length that makes it easy for your baby to latch. The nipple is also soft like the real nipple.

Some features that make this bottle the number one choice are the anti-colic vents that provide an even flow. This prevents your child from swallowing air and getting fussy.

The bottle comes in two sizes. The 5oz bottle is great for newborns and small infants and includes a slow-flow nipple.

The 8oz bottle is great for infants and includes a medium-flow nipple but you can also get a fast-flow or variable-flow nipple.

The 8oz bottle is narrower in the middle so your baby can hold it easily.

I suggest you get the Baby Bottle Bundle, which includes two 5oz and two 8oz bottles, and one slow, one medium, and one fast flow nipple.

It’s worth having multiple sets of nipples because when your baby begins to teeth, they will chew on the nipple and may rip it.

  • Helps prevent nipple confusion.
  • The safe silicone provides a breast-like feel.
  • Made with high-quality, food contact-grade silicone
  • Our daughter latched on easily.
  • The bottles are soft and squeezable, like the real breast.
  • free from chemicals such as BPA, PVC, and Phthalates.
  • The nipples come in various flow rates.
  • Perfect for babies with a tongue tie.
  • Your baby will be able to hold the bottle on their own.
  • Besides normal wear or your baby tearing the nipple when they start teething, I did not see anything wrong with these bottles.

2. Nanobébé Flexy Silicone Baby Bottle

This is a soft baby bottle with a triple-vented silicone nipple to prevent colic in babies.

This is another great baby bottle for tongue tied babies that is similar to Comotomo. The Nanobébé Flexy Silicone Baby Bottle is made of soft and squeezable silicone.

The breast-like silicone nipple offers your baby an easy transition from your breast to the bottle or even when you alternate between the two, and this prevents nipple confusion.

Nipple confusion is when your baby cannot switch between your breast and the baby bottle. This usually happens when you introduce a bottle and your baby may have difficulty latching on to the bottle.

What differentiates this bottle from Comotomo is the anti-colic system. The Flexy Silicone Baby Bottle has 3 anti-colic vents that keep your baby latched and reduces fussiness or gassiness.

It also has a wider base that prevents tipping and this is helpful when your baby is learning how to hold the bottle.

The Flexi Silicone Baby Bottle comes in two sizes: 5oz and 9oz. The 5oz option comes in a 3-pack while the 9oz option comes individually or also in a 3-pack. Both sizes of bottles come in various colors.

You can also buy different flow rate nipples depending on your child: Preemie, Slow, Medium, Fast, and Variable flow rates.

While this bottle worked, our daughter was able to grasp the Comotomo bottle better because it has a smaller base and a better anti-slip surface.

  • The Preemie size nipple is great for small or premature babies.
  • The triple-vented anti-colic system reduces fussiness and discomfort.
  • Its wide base prevents tipping.
  • Made of BPA-free, non-toxic silicone.
  • The silicon provides a breast-like feel.
  • Prevents nipple confusion.
  • Nipples come in different flow rates.
  • Multiple colors are available.
  • More affordable than Comotomo.
  • Its wider base may be a bit harder for your baby to hold it.

3. Nanobébé Breastmilk Baby Bottle

This is the only bottle designed for breast milk because it protects vital nutrients.

This bottle uses the same nipples as the Flexi Silicone Baby bottle but the design of the bottle is very different.

The Nanobébé Breastmilk Baby Bottle helps cool and warm breastmilk quicker because the domed shape of the bottle spreads the milk out in a thin layer.

And because breastmilk cools and warms up faster than regular-shaped bottles, it prevents the growth of bacteria and preserves vitamins and minerals that are crucial for your baby.

Another great benefit is that you can pump directly into this bottle because it comes with a pump adapter. This eliminates the hassle of pouring breastmilk into a separate bottle.

While its design is superior to other bottles we tested, there is one minor inconvenience.

The only thing to consider is that this bottle is much wider than the Comotomo or the Flexi Silicone Bottle and your baby won’t be able to hold it to self-feed.

  • The nipple comes in different flow rates.
  • Triple-vented technology prevents gassiness and fussiness.
  • Breastmilk cools down quicker and prevents the growth of bacteria.
  • Protects nutrients that are vital for your baby.
  •  free of BPA, PVC, lead, and phthalates.
  • Not ideal for your baby to self-feed.
  • Does not come with a pump.

Baby Bottles FAQ

Yes because the frenulum, which is the band of tissue under the tongue, does not separate when your baby is born and this does not allow your baby to get their tongue to the roof of their mouth and express milk from the nipple.

In my personal experience, your baby should lie down facing up because gravity will help pull milk out of your breast or baby bottle.

This is what our lactation consultant recommended and it worked.

Yes, it is worth it and I recommend it. In my personal experience, breastfeeding with a tongue-tied baby was painful and my baby was not able to feed correctly because she could not latch on to my breast.

After we did a tongue-tie release, called frenectomy, she was able to latch on to my breast and squeeze milk more efficiently. This reduced the pain and she was able to feed better.

What to do next?

The Comotomo is the best bottle for tongue tied babies but the Nanobébé is an excellent second choice.

I would stay away from other brands because they are generic and don’t have the same benefits as Comotomo and Nanobebe.

Once your baby can feed independently, you can sit them in a high chair so they can begin baby-led weaning. Here are the best high chairs I recommend to make feeding more enjoyable.
